Interpretive
Hikes:
Bring
the family and join our Laguna Greenbelt Docents for fun
and exploration in our riparian woodlands and fragrant coastal
sage-scrub. Learn about the diverse animal and plant habitat
that makes our Southern California wilderness a world treasure.
Hikers are asked to wear sturdy walking shoes, a hat and
sunscreen and carry at least one liter of water per person.
Binoculars and cameras are also recommended. Donations to
Laguna Greenbelt, Inc. accepted for all guided hikes, $2
per hiker.
The
Laurel Canyon Loop Hike departs
every Saturday at 8 am from the Willow Canyon
HQ and staging area. The Laurel Loop is a 3 ½ mile
moderately strenuous hike up Laurel Canyon’s specially
protected California Ecological Reserve along a dry streambed
and beautiful oak groves. See an earthquake fault, scallop
fossils, and a hawk’s nest. At the top, views from windswept
Bommer Ridge of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. Please
call for reservations: 2-3 hours, approximately 3.5 miles,
moderately strenuous.
The
Emerald Canyon Loop Hike departs on the 2nd Sunday of every
month at 7:30 am from the Willow Canyon HQ staging
area. Travel up-canyon to windswept ocean views of Catalina
Island from Bommer Ridge where raptors soar. Continue down
the steep trail to the bottom of Emerald Canyon into a pristine
streamside woodland with a seasonal waterfall. Please call
for reservations: 3-5 hours, approximately 5-8 miles, moderately
strenuous.

August 10th at 7:30 am
Full
Moon Hikes depart on the 2nd Saturday of every month at 6
pm from the Willow Canyon HQ staging area. In the
cool of the evening many of our wildest venture out into the
moonshadow for a nocturnal sojourn. Please call for reservations:
2-3 hours, approximately 2.5 miles, moderately strenuous.
Bring small flashlight.
Saturday
July 12th and Saturday August 9th
Sunset
hikes depart on the 2nd Friday of every month at 6 pm
from the Willow Canyon staging area. On clear days our brilliant
ocean sunsets are spectacular. Ever see a “green flash”?
Please call for reservations: 2-3 hours, approximately 2.5
miles, moderately strenuous.
